Dhofar Islamic launches Braille debit card for visually impaired customers

Dhofar Islamic, the Islamic banking window of BankDhofar, has announced the launch of its new Braille-designed debit card in a pioneering initiative that reflects its continued commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity, and underscores its approach to delivering innovative, customer-centric banking solutions tailored to the needs of all segments of society.

The card has been designed to enable customers with visual impairments to access banking services with greater ease and independence. Its tactile features allow users to read essential information such as the card number, security code, and expiry date, helping to safeguard privacy and reduce reliance on others. These features also facilitate the daily use of the card at ATMs and point-of-sale terminals, while minimising errors and enhancing transaction security.

This initiative aligns with Dhofar Islamic’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and its role in promoting the integration of people with disabilities into society, in line with national efforts to empower these groups and in accordance with global best practices for accessibility in financial services.

To support the rollout, Dhofar Islamic has implemented training programmes for branch staff at all levels, ensuring they are equipped to assist customers throughout the card application process and provide immediate activation support. The launch of the Braille debit card forms part of a comprehensive inclusivity programme adopted by Dhofar Islamic, which includes upgrading branch facilities and ATMs to accommodate diverse needs, as well as introducing assistive solutions such as Braille keypads and audio support services.

The initiative has further extended to enhancing the bank’s digital platforms through simplified user interfaces and multiple language options, ensuring a seamless and inclusive banking experience for all customers.

Inclusivity at Dhofar Islamic is regarded as a core responsibility that goes beyond being a corporate value. The bank is committed to fostering a banking environment where all individuals feel respected, empowered, and confident in pursuing their financial aspirations. With the launch of the Braille debit card, Dhofar Islamic renews its commitment to putting people at the heart of its services and delivering banking solutions that make a meaningful, positive impact on customers’ lives.

Recently, Dhofar Islamic also expanded its branch network to more than 30 branches across all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, enabling it to offer a comprehensive range of banking products and services to all segments of society—from children and minors, youth and women, to entrepreneurs and holders of Al Riffa and Al Riyada cards—meeting their diverse banking needs through a flexible and reliable approach.
